Anyone install Windows 10 yet?

I still think I might wait a bit. It seems my photo/music PC is the only one ready for the update right now. I'd rather do the first one on one of the other PC's. Yes, I felt the same way, and upgraded a non-critical Win-8.1 PC first, having taken a full backup. It worked well, and was up and running about 90 minutes later. As my wife's Win-7 PC had a couple of issues I next took the plunge with a full backup before the Win-10 upgrade. It was there we discovered the need to re-register Autopano Pro but as I keep a text file with all the licences for each PC (in multiple places) it was just a matter of copying and pasting a key. Unusual, as all other software kept their licence keys after the upgrade. Then I did the rest of the PCs, which have some rather specialised temperature sensing and weather satellite data reception software (not available for Macs, Duck!) Ummm.... http://www.wxtoimg.com http://trixology.com/weathercat/ ....for starters. and various off-air ship data and aircraft data software and hardware. I was expecting driver issues, but in the two cases where they arose I could use the drivers from the Windows.Old directory left by the upgrade. Perhaps I have been lucky, but all went smoothly and easily. A number of minor issues seen on the PCs before the upgrades have been resolved too. -- Regards, Savageduck |

[] Ummm.... http://www.wxtoimg.com http://trixology.com/weathercat/ ...for starters. Whilst that software works for low-bandwidth data, the data I get is some 56 GB per day over a system called TelliCast, which is supported only on Windows and Linux. This is direct from the satellites both polar orbiting and geostationary from around the globe, hence the large data volume. I have written my own processing software, sales of which have kept bread on my table for the last 15 years or so, and the vast majority of my customers run Windows. Doubtless if the programs I wanted to run worked on the Mac that would have been the OS I selected, but I choose the tools I need first, and then the appropriate OS to support them. So I run Windows, Linux and iOS here, but not OS X. -- Cheers, David Web: http://www.satsignal.eu |

However, the information provided in the Newtec information for Tellicast seems to indicate support for OSX. I don't know enough about this stuff to know the depth of support for OSX, but it seems that Newtec has not left Intel Macs totally out in the cold. I also concede that this is just the tip of the ice berg regarding the products and services they provide. http://www.newtec.eu/backend/files/leaflet/Newtec%20Multicast%20Software%20leaflet%20TL300%20 TelliCast%20R2.pdf -- Regards, Savageduck |

[] I just found your site, (thanks Duck) and since you use Delphi... Nevermind... But Delphi is available in a free cross-platform version called FreePascal using the Lazarus IDE. I did make a couple of programs for Linux (Raspberry Pi) that way. Again, it's the time taken to support which possibly matters most to me as I am semi-retired! -- Cheers, David Web: http://www.satsignal.eu |
