Lask question about KIEV
JIRI wrote:
So i have last question about this Kiev cameras...There are 3 companies reworking kiev cameras (Kiewcamera-USA, ARAX photo-Ukraina,Hartblei-who knows) Now pleas tell me where is the best to buy a kiev camera and WHY...i am from europe but the summer times i am spending in USA...Thank you very very much for all advices. Hartblei.com is not the "real" Hartblei. Who knows where the real Hartblei is? I own 2 Hartblei cameras and they work really well, but I bought them through a person who knows the owner personally. He explained to me the last camera I bought was one of the last they plan on doing as they decided rebuilding camera bodies was too time consuming for the money involved and plan on just upgrading lenses. I had a bad experience with Kievcamera with warranty problems, he seems to blame problems on the users? -Very- uncomfortable dealing with problems. Arax seems to be very intereted in delivering a quality camera and is quick to resolve any problems without trying to blame the user. Unless you HAVE to be able to swap films mid-roll, get a K-60 as it's MUCH more reliable. I can't imagine you having any problems with an ARAX K-60. -- Stacey |

If you're from europe, you may want to check http://wiese-fototechnik.de/ from Hamburg, Germany. Mr. Wiese has a good reputation in re-building Kiev and Pentacon cameras. He offers re-build K-60 and K-88 cameras. HTH Christian Kolinski |

Lask question about KIEV
I like all of those "leather" and faux snake coverings Arax has to offer. Can
anyone recommend one? Hey, if you're going to be a poser, you gotta do it right! |

Not cheap, but worth it to get access to GDR and Ukrainian lenses. _They_ are the worthy bargain, not the camera. But he seems rather hesitant to accept new orders - according to some who tried to get their -third source- cameras repaired or upgraded.. Mr. Wiese has a good reputation in re-building Kiev and Pentacon cameras. Ack. My K88 has been reviewed by his workshop and it performs fine. I managed to kill a magazine, but that was due to a design flaw. Everything else -shutter, MLU, screen- just fine. I handled a Wiese-checked 88CM - a very decent thing, allthough I prefer his implementation of the lens mount. The NT magazines are a great improvement. One advantage is the 2 years mandatory warranty - he has no chance to evade it, but he used to give two years of guarantee when I bought the set in 1998. HTH Christian Kolinski Gruss, Roman |
