Nikon has made a good try but I suspect they have missed the mark for the mirrorless and highend compact market. I would have prefered to have seen an APS-C sensor rather than the Nikon 1", and an exchangeable lens system with a roadmap for DL lens development. That said these will be good for some folks, but are more compact cameras than mirrorless to compete with Sony, Olympus, Fujifilm, or Panasonic. If you want one of these, I suspect they will be discounted within a year. I am not rushing to buy. The images produced are impressive and I am sure that many Nikon shooters will buy one to have as a lightweight option. -- Regards, Savageduck |

I think that a premium compact would be at least a halfformat (APS-C). To get extra umph! I don't think that the competition has lose much sleep over these... -- teleportation kills |

Why buy one camera and interchangeable lenses when you could buy (and carry) three cameras instead! A pity that Nikon does not embrace the micro-four-thirds format giving the user a choice of Nikon optics and body, or other optics and body to suit the users' needs. Even though I own Nikon DSLRs, these cameras do very little for me. Looking forward to my next MFT camera which will use my existing lenses. -- Cheers, David Web: http://www.satsignal.eu |

I could see each of them appealing to a "one camera" person: the wide if your interests were architecture, the middle if you want macro, the superzoom if interested in action sports. They won't tempt me away from Fuji-X but I could see myself suggesting them to less nerdy friends looking for better performance than a lot of compacts. It is good to see more alternatives to DSLRs. |

That is also my take on the three DL Nikons. I am more than satisfied with Fuji-X, as I am sure are the users of Sony and other interchangeable lens mirrorless cameras. These Nikons each fill a seperate niche, but not a full range. Each one is a compromise with limitations, the two small ones each have lens limitations, and the one with the 'Super-Zoom' is no match for the compact Fuji-Xs or Sonys when it comes to size/bulk. They will work for folks who can get by without the versatility of a range of interchangeble lenses. Of the three I can see the DL24-85 as the most promising walk-around compact to fit most street/portraiture/macro, but it is without a standard EVF (extra cost for an accessory EVF). I am seriously considering an X-Pro2, or the X-T2 (when announced), or even an X-E3 (which is supposed to be in the development pipeline). For now I have my X-E2 v4.0 + XF14mm f/2.8, XF35mm f/1.4, XF18-55mm f/2.8-4, and XF55-200mm (with a few others on my wish list.) I also have my Nikon DSLR kit to use when that need arises. -- Regards, Savageduck |
