In other words... There is no simple answer to that question.
Built-in video editing is good with the Mac...but either platform allows the
use of world-class software for video and photo work.

Bottom line:
If you are having problems with your video and photo editing, it is highly
unlikely that the platform that is to blame.

When considering "extra cost," factor in what software comes already with
the Mac as part of the system vs. what you'll have to buy with a Windows
PC. Also consider the cost in time of having to deal with Microsoft viruses,
worms, advertising popups, and on and on. With a Mac, you just do the job.

I can get an acceptable entry level PC with XP for $300 or less (not
including monitor) that will do the job. Plenty of money left over for
the software. Mac's are WAY too expensive considering Apple uses price
fixing methods.

A Mac Mini, which likewise doesn't include a monitor, goes for $500 list
(default low-end config, on Apple's website), and I imagine that it can
be found for somewhat less by shopping around. And it's not a completely
barebones system; your $300 PC probably won't have a DVD/CD-RW drive or
more than 256 Mb of RAM. Sure, going to 512 Mb and replacing the CD
reader with a low-end burner (both standard on the Mini) probably adds
less than $100 to the cost, but both are pretty much necessary.

The Mac is more expensive, but it's not as drastic a difference as you
are portraying.

Having switched over to Apple last year, and noting that the PowerBook
was actually cheaper than buying yet another ThinkPad, I would say that
the Apple was worth it, but photo editing is no easier on the Apple
than it was on the PC. The biggest difference seems to have come from
the fact that my new PowerBook had 2Gb of RAM. That really makes a huge
difference with Photoshop.
