So the conversation drifted to the basics of what mFT is about. Tiny

Not if you need a smaller camera, for example, or a lighter camera
covering the same FoV. But yes, if small depth of field is required, or
working at the lowest light level. Bigger sensors and their associated
lenses and cameras (meaning full-frame, for example) may be overkill for
many requirements, and having a camera always with you many be more
important than having the ultimate in equipment.

Different folk, different needs.

Larger sensor gives you better pictures than smaller ones. Portability
is another parameter.

yep

But only for certain values of "better", as I'm sure you know.

We are talking sensors here.

Not by the topic title. But if you insist, then, big sensors are
certainly not /always/ better - it depends on the application.

for image quality, bigger is always better. basic physics.
for portability, smaller is always better. also physics.

It depends how you measure 'image quality'.

For the same target image, depth of focus works against larger
sensors.

no it doesn't.

no it doesn't. that is a huge myth.

it also doesn't matter. the question is does someone need the higher
quality of a larger sensor.

for some situations, the higher quality will matter. for others, it
won't.

someone shooting photos to be posted on facebook does *not* need a full
frame slr.

Then you have the FF'rs on Dpreview who "suddenly" think a medium format
camera is no better than a FF. Seems that the "bigger" size stops being
superior at the FF doorstep...

seems that there are plenty of ignorant people on dpreview. no surprise
there.
