Adobe goes to hardware!

A tad expensive at $199, but interesting to say the least. http://www.adobe.com/products/ink-and-slide.html https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cI4DZpJJ-J4 " Creative Cloud membership Ink & Slide require a Creative Cloud membership for Cloud-connected capabilities, such as the Pen Tip menu access to Kuler themes, Cloud Clipboard, and sharing to Behance. A free membership provides access to these services." I wouldn't touch this with a 10 foot stylus. That free will become fee - if not specifically then for access to newly introduced features down the line. That remains to be seen. The bait is already out there with the promise of simple integration with the rest of the CC apps. Personally I have no need for this tool, but I have no doubt that there are those in the design & art communities who are already deeply invested in the full CC Suite, who are going to find this a useful tool. For me my interest in the CC remains with photography asset management & post processing, not illustration or design. My pitiful drawing skills are best left to noodling about with ArtStudio ($4.99) on my iPad. What if you're traveling and have no internet connection (or not a fast enough connection)? I believe that is only going to be an issue for connection with cloud services, and that would be a problem for any cloud service, be it Dropbox, Box, iCloud, etc. For folks traveling to most metropolitan areas they shouldn't have issues, but hit the Amazon Basin, engage in a trans-Sahara trek, or check on Arctic ice melt rates and you might find that you need some other method of dealing with data, or drawing straight lines with your new Adobe *Ink & Slide*. Adobe cloud is a honey trap of the worst kind. That is not necessarily true, if anything the old upgrade treadmill was worse and far more punitive to the wallet. -- Regards, Savageduck |

Conventional artist tools provide far more control for drawing. There are numerous options to get a tracing of an image (as shown in the video) in a graphic editor. It might be handy to do something like digitize a signature without requiring a scanner, but that kind of functionality is not worth much expense. I have a friend who does surprisingly beautiful drawing in MS Word, using only the tools there. He did a praying mantis that's gorgeous. I have no idea how he accomplished it. While I'm very impressed, I also think he probably has too much time on his hands. The fact that it *can* be done doesn't make it an exciting option. For $4.99 there is ArtStudio on the iPad which doesn't need a Mac, or a PC, and there are some who have pretty good skills with that. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lOOyL_2zE7g -- Regards, Savageduck |

I am sure there will be used ones once some folks discover they never had a need for one in the first place, and now have a $200 thing sitting on a desk doing nothing. If Adobe says it's not transferable ebay will not allow it to be listed. there's plenty of 'not transferrable' software on ebay. As for the Adobe CC account that can be arranged at any time. But will Adobe transfer the device from one account to another? If so how much will they charge? probably nothing. However there are going to be those folks who are going to think that this is just an iPad tool. They are going to be sorely disappointed. Until someone cracks it and writes drivers for it to support something other than an ipad it will remain an ipad tool. That's if anyone has enough interest to do so. there are plenty of ipads to sustain the product. |

They are going to sell a lot of those, but I bet a lot of people discover it is not as easy at looks and give up on them after while. It is never as easy as it looks. That is going to be best used by a individuals with skills and a purpose. Others will have to climb the learning curve to justify their outlay. Might as well wait for the used ones to show up on eBay. But will there be used ones? Is it transferable? Since it's tied to an Adobe account the possibility is there that it won't be. Oh! If Adobe says it's not transferable ebay will not allow it to be listed. That is a big if. There is nothing stopping you from buying the *Ink & Slide* from Adobe and selling it. However, the CC account is necessary for accessing some of the features. Without the CC account it is just a paperweight. From what I see it can be linked to any CC account, but that account is needed for it to work as advertized. As for the Adobe CC account that can be arranged at any time. But will Adobe transfer the device from one account to another? If so how much will they charge? They don't transfer the account (which are non-transferable). If I own and use an *ink & Slide* there is nothing stopping me lending that *ink & Slide* to another CC subscriber who has an iPad and a particular need to use the device. All he has to do is download the free Adobe iPad app, and connect to his CC account to have the pen work. The same would apply to anybody who buys a used one from eBay. However there are going to be those folks who are going to think that this is just an iPad tool. They are going to be sorely disappointed. Are you sure that he is not going to get a message "this device is linked to another account, please buy your own device" or some such? Highly unlikely. The most disturbing thing about this discussion, is your insistence to find something wrong with this product. Your skepticism is beginning to smell trollish. I gather that you are not a fan of things Adobe, and that is OK. However, you seem to be ignorant of just how the Creative Cloud actually works very successfully for those who choose to use it, and there are thousands of them. Here is a sampling of the work produced in the Creative Cloud community: https://www.behance.net/search However there are going to be those folks who are going to think that this is just an iPad tool.
