The deer here (DC suburbs) are VERY tame. They don't freak out as long as you're about 50 yards from them and/or behind some sort of cover. I remember camping south of Richmond, VA about 20 years ago, we arrived at about 11pm. The deer wouldn't leave the campsite until we got out and shooed them away. Even then they looked back to see if we were serious... They'd waltz up on his deck, start nosing through his trash. It's amazing how quickly wild animals will turn into pests once they find an incentive (food). -- http://www.pbase.com/bcbaird/ |

You could drive right up to them, and they wouldn't even look up. But, as soon as you got out of your car, they would run off.....One evening when I was going in for a night shift on my motorcycle, I drove so close to one eating at the side of the road, that I could slap him on the rear end as I drove by.....I never saw one so surprised.....One of those strange beasts that makes all that noise actually touched him........ |
