In article ,
says...
The dog has given up trying to chase the squirrels, cats & groundhogs.
She wants the deer, and she won't settle for anything smaller!

In the Spring, food is plentiful. The best way to attract them is with a
salt lick......

Then the damn neighbor's kids won't get off my freaking lawn! Those
kids, they love salt, they do.

The deer here (DC suburbs) are VERY tame. They don't freak out as long
as you're about 50 yards from them and/or behind some sort of cover.

I remember camping south of Richmond, VA about 20 years ago, we arrived
at about 11pm. The deer wouldn't leave the campsite until we got out
and shooed them away. Even then they looked back to see if we were
serious...

Cheers,
Alan.

The deer on the project where I worked for 30 years were perfectly happy
around people as long as we were in our cars. You could drive right up to
them, and they wouldn't even look up. But, as soon as you got out of your
car, they would run off.....One evening when I was going in for a night
shift on my motorcycle, I drove so close to one eating at the side of the
road, that I could slap him on the rear end as I drove by.....I never saw
one so surprised.....One of those strange beasts that makes all that noise
actually touched him........
