How to set FZ30 focus to "infinity"
Hi Everyone,
On my old Nikon coolpix 995, there was a setting to automatically set the camera's focus to infinity, such that the autofocus wouldn't engage when the shutter release was pressed. On my new FZ30, I can't find any such setting. If I go to manual focus and train the field of view on distant stars (infinite distance, effectively), I find that I can reach and then pass proper focus in both directions (clock/counter-clock). I wish the lens' focus ring had a "stop" at infinity, so I knew when I was there... The result is that it's hard for me to achieve infinite focal distance at night, because there's not enough visible structure out there for me to manually focus on. And the auto-focus (I'm using night-scenery mode) doesn't help in achieving that proper focus. Is there any way to set the FZ30 to focus at infinity (automatically) and stay there?? If possible, please send any replies to . Thanks in advance for any replies, Scott Speck |

They both set the focus range to 5m-Inf but that's not the same as Inf. Are you tending to use wide-angle or telephoto? I suspect the absence of an Inf stop is because the exact focus point varies depending on the degree of zoom. I'll have another try tonight. Bit tricky checking infinity focusing at night in broad daylight. -- Dibley |
