That is a "Downy Woodpecker" Picoides pubescens.

Thanks, closest I've gotten to one.


Peter was correct, it is a female.

You should be able to see plenty more of them as they can be found
almost everywhere in the lower 48 and Canada.

That is very much a European woodpecker not found in North America,
except when it is misidentified by overenthusiastic birders who want to
claim a rare bird sighting.

Well thanks for taking the time to look and comment. That particular effort
is supposed to be a dark and moody environmental portrait type of thing, my
lighting technique has improved since then.

Well thanks for taking the time to look and comment. That particular effort

Mood lighting is very hard to achieve. Applause for trying. Google
"photography tutorial mood lighting," You will find a lot on the subject.
