Default Windows 10 - Day 1 + How to get classic start icon?

Hi,

I read vaguely that it is possible to modify Windows 10 into what they
call the classical format, with the START icon as of yore. Does anyone
know how I can do that? On line, I see a number of money-requiring
entities which I do not trust.

Thanks,

Mort Linder

I installed Windows 10 during the night. Goodbye Windows 7. So far.

It's actually very little change other than the START menu. My
desktop is the same, all programs except one seem to work, and no
glitches.

I lost my Tinnes Desktop Calendar, and I do rather miss it. It was up
on the desktop at all times. 10 has a calendar, but I haven't found a
way to keep it up on the desktop. I open it and then minimize it.

I didn't explain that right. It is either up or minimized. The
Tinnes app was up only on the desktop.

Dunno what all the fuss is about from the anti-10 contingent.

Hi,

Thanks for the link. Unfortunately, it only describes deleting some of
the tiles. This does not produce a START icon, nor a list of folders or
sections that reside on the hard drive. There are fixes out there that
actually restore the START icon and the item list, similar to the
previous Windows editions. I just do not know which ones are trustworthy.

Thanks again,

Mort Linder

Try alt.comp.os.windows-10
That's the place for Win10 tweak questions.

My sincere thanks to the several kind souls who replied with helpful
suggestions, which I shall now act upon.

As a creature of habit, I am really accustomed to the start icon and its
list of items, e.g. pictures, music, etc., and I hope that your
suggestions will enable me to get them back.

Mort Linder
