B/W Films.
Which B/W films do you like using for specific purposes and what is it you like about the ones you have chosen?
This can be for portraits, landscapes, architecture or for general use. |

I also have my last box of Kodak T-Max 100 in 4x5 Readyloads to use and then I'm left with a useless Readyload film holder. :-( |

B/W Films.
I do quite a bit of candid shooting at friends' receptions, weddings,
etc. I primarily use a vertical format 645 with HP5+ and PyroCat-MC. This combination has that perfect skin tone expansion that lends added dimension and glow to people's skin. The eyelashes/hair edges are snappy as are the higher contrast meeting points (clothing threads, etc) but the subtle tones in skin wrinkles seem smoothed, somehow. Anyway, it's my go-to, works-everytime combination. It's very forgiving and consistent for printing, too. I've been back to playing with TMY-2 as I'd like to get it sorted and predictable. I like the idea of homebrews but so far have had the best success with Xtol. I recently have returned to some 35mm b&w after a long hiatus and like the nice, small grain behavior of the new T-Max and have some surprisingly solid 8X10 prints from this. I've got freezer full of Pan-F, FP4+ and Acros in 35mm and 120. Just for the sake of using it, I'm embarking on some sorting experiments to get tuned into these films again and make use of them. I have enough experience from over the years to get good, decent results from these but feel I'm 90% of the way to their potential and never seem to have the time or projects to truly master them. |
