Now THIS is what I call a pose...
wrote in message oups.com... Nah, Brian Adams is ok. Now Howie Mandel is another matter. Sorry, but he just seems to annoy me. LOL. Helen As far as I can see, the only difference between Canadians and Americans is when they pronounce the word, "about". With us Americans, it rhymes with "A shout", and with Canadians, it rhymes with, "A boot". |

I'm 71, and I still learn something new almost every day.... As you are still just a youth I will make allowances..... Yup. Same "vale" as what holds the "shadow of death" where you're supposed to "fear no evil". But I also like the veil of tears. That's a veil that got caught in the paper shredder..... Never heard of that, although I have heard of the neck-tie of tears. |

Helen Well, the difference is sometimes quite subtle.....Sometimes there is just a hint of "boot" in the word....Especially if they have lived down here for a long time, like Alex Trebec has.....but it is the only difference that I have ever been able to hear in the pronunciation of English between the two countries...... |

You will hear that pronunciation in the Appalachian Mountains in Virginia, also; perhaps other parts of Appalachia, though I haven't heard it. Some linguists claim that pronunciations and speech patterns in that area is the closest we have today to seventeenth century England. Allen |

I know that the best English construction I have heard spoken is from individuals from the deep South. Especially from Louisiana and one friend from Georgia. But this was not pronunciation, but construction.....If the accent is so bad that you can't understand the language, then perfect construction is of little consequence......:^) |
