By the way Alan, the polite way to address people is either by the first
name or by a "Mr" (or "Ms/Mrs") followed by the family name.

Quite right, Alfred! ;-)

Btw, your clock time is incorrect (as viewed by me)

Perhaps you are correct.

For your interest, though, here's an image which I took with my wife's
iPhone SE just a few weeks ago.

I personally think the quality pretty good. What do YOU think?

aside Your 'clock' is still wrong!

But, as usual, this thread has deteriorated into an argument about the
"real camera" aspects of a smartphone instead of just agreeing that it
was user incompetence on the part of the body shop.

The thing is that while the repair shop does not sell its photos for a
living like a pro, the images are nevertheless used professionally (to
prove the damage). So you need a camera capable of delivering
professional quality.

I took photos of the car body with my camera and with my smartphone
(both in good light). It's a difference like day and night.

The body shop
should have known, from looking at the result, that they didn't do a
satisfactory job. They've dealt with insurance companies before, and
know what is required to honor a claim.

Perhaps they didn't pixel-peep at 100% and assumed that the pictures
were good enough. But again, they should have used a decent camera, not
a smartphone.

You're the one who needs to get over it. A good smartphone camera will
do more than adequate for insurance claims, body shop estimates, etc.
for even the smallest and faintest of damage. Requires adequate light
and proper technique.

Ok, I give up. Go use a smartphone to shoot a wedding. Have fun.

And sell your DSLR gear - you obviously don't need it.

some photographers are doing just that. here's two of numerous examples:

And sell your DSLR gear - you obviously don't need it.

for most situations, a smartphone is more than good enough and in many
cases, a *better* choice than lugging an slr and lenses.

You're cute. Lose your argument to facts and reality and so come out
with a ridiculous counter jibe. Are you sure you weren't in an American
high school sophomore debating club?

This sophomoric discussion is getting soporific.

Perhaps we can elevate it a bit.

Here is Mrs Kelby and her iPhone work. If all you do is take a look at the
first part of the first video to get an idea of the capability of an iPhone
in skilled hands.
