David is intentionally misleading you. While I was a former blackhat
hacker and virus writer, I'm a gray hat these days. I retired from vx
(that's virus) related activities, nearly eighteen years ago now.
nospam confused that for retired from the workforce. I was already
deeply entrenched in the world of I.T then as I am now. I just happen
to also have taken on another trade I find interesting and
challenging; The electrical industry.

I know that I can go pretty much anywhere in the states and find a
job with the trade skills I have. Either doing I.T (preferably field
tech work) or electrical. I really don't like sitting behind a desk
all day, but, I can do that too.. for awhile, until I get antsy and
find something else that doesn't require it. LOL.

It wasn't illegal then and it's not illegal now to write self
replicating software in the states. It's not even illegal to
distribute said software, so long as you clearly explain to the would
be downloader what it is. My 'pro' vx sites were quite clear about
the executable programs offered on them. I went a bit further than
just telling them, though. *ALL* 1st gen samples as offered from
those sites were disabled. They could be enabled by the user who
downloaded them by following very specific steps. In other words, you
couldn't download something from my sites and infect someone you
didn't like just by passing off the file you downloaded to them.

The illegal aspect to self replicating code is if you pass it around
maliciously. Since I didn't participate in that, there was nothing
for me to be punished for, as I broke no laws. Although much of my
work did go viral, that wasn't my direct doing. That was the result
of people taking my creations, arming said creations and spreading
them with malicious intentions. I'm very much like a firearms
manufacturer in that respect. Yes, I built the gun, but, I have no
control over you shooting a person vs a deer or a target in your
backyard. In the same sense my viral work was meant to be studied by
those interested in such things in a controlled environment.

And I clearly indicated that in the accompanying documentation that
was included with each one offered on those sites. Yes, they had
docs. And, you couldn't ignore reading them if you wanted it to
replicate. The required arming instructions were in the documentation
as well. You had to scroll down a ways to get them, the material
before them were warnings and details concerning the functionality
and payload disclosure. IE: what the virus did, if it did something
aside from replication.

I don't provide ANY audio/video to the general public that violates
copyrights, despite his hillarious claims to the contrary.

So "we" whoever we is supposed to be doesn't know their arses from a
hole in the ground concerning me. Happy to have corrected "We"
erroneous information.
