The drop off in speed is a bit ominous. More testing might be needed,

it's had plenty of testing.

but it
could cause problems if they have to blanket a city with radios to keep
speeds up.

mmw does, but there's more to 5g than mmw.

Every place that agrees to host a radio charges "rent" to do it
so it could drive costs up, in addition to the extra equipment needed.

not every place.

To me 5G is what will make the cloud finally really feasible.
The ability to quickly download/upload GBytes of data. Try doing
that with 4G.

you're ignoring that 5g service will normally carry a premium,
certainly early on, and that the speed improvements won't be realized
indoors for a very long time.

To me, the cloud is just someone else's computer. I back things up to it but
work only from my own computer.

Someone else's computers are a bit suspicious if they are not somone you
know ...

One can use some things to make sure your data won't be peeked by those
someones ...

Perhaps 4G is too slow?

definitely not and most people never reach its limit.

5g is also capable of lower latency, which matters more, but that
requires a massive deployment of new cell sites, so it won't happen
particularly soon.

another problem is indoors. millimeter wave does not like walls or
other obstructions. step indoors, or even behind a tree, and it drops
back to 4g, assuming you had line of sight to a tower while outside.
