I like this reason someone posted.

"i feel that no company should trade timber"

Yea and like how would we build houses and furniture? LOL

Well, the house bit is easy, build them properly out of brick..

And the cupboards and table and chairs out of brick?

Unfortunately for the "save the trees" wackos, even brick & adobe houses
need timber for frames, beams, doors, etc. I never understand why they
can't grasp a simple fact: Trees as a resource are not exhaustible, they
GROW BACK. Old growth trees should be cut down at will, the little ones
will simply keep growing and replace them, just as they've always done.

This is just another radical left wing initiative intended to cripple
commerce and radically restrict life styles. (Naturally, their rich bozo
contributors can have all the wood they want, they'll be the only ones
who can afford it!) The Spotted Owl? Doing fine, one pair was even found
nesting in a sign in a parking lot in Washington. A distortion of the
ESA, used as a canard by the wacked out left to destroy the logging
industry.

On second thought, what kind of drugs are you on? I don't expect you to
share so how much for a half ounce?

Do yourself a favor, e-wacko, lay off the enviro-Kool Aide for a week, take
a look around and maybe you''ll realize what a dupe you are.

CUT THE FRIGGIN' TREES AND SHUT UP!!!

Oh, so you like the idea of concrete doors, huh? What about all the
environmental destruction caused by minimg the gravel, aluminium, etc.,
plus the toxic substances usde to make "synthetic" wood substitutes?
Oh, I see, you hope no one notices, becuse it will provide future areas to
protest, file lawsuits to benefit your leftist trial lawyer buddies, etc.?
WOW WHAT A FRIGGIN' SCAM!!!!!

You've...uh...still got a little fleck of spittle on your...okay, you got
it.

Vast areas of the earth were denuded of trees hundreds and 10s of
hundreds of years ago and continue to be treeless.

SoK66 responds:

Almost no wood is used in modern commercial buildings.

Horeshockey! Framing, doors, trim, cabinetry, etc are all based upon wood.
Most of it imported, sending more jobs overseas...which of course, is all
blamed on Bush. MORE BULL****!!!

You are full of ****. When was the last time you were on any kind of
construction work site? Even framing is now done with metal studs. What wood is
used is OSB between solid wood carriers. All the OSB I've ever even heard of is
made near forested areas of the U.S.

Actually, imported woods aren't of much importance in construction. We get some
Canadian HFP (melock-fir-pine) but most of it comes out of U.S. forests.
Imported woods tend to be the high end stuff that is replacing redwood for deck
building, that is used in furniture and paneling, and that is generally twice
(or more) as costly as many U.S. woods.

And many houses are going to steel studs and other non-wood parts.

YEt, we conveniently ignore that most of the houses remain to be made of
imported wood products, PERIOD!

Bull****. Where do you get this information--directly from the secondary polar
section of your head?

Name one in the USA! US forests are so overgrown we've seen massive
wildfires unparralled in modern history. Had they been loggged the scale &
scope of these fires (one of which occured here in my home town 80,000 acres
destroyed) would have been much less. Enviro-idiots would rather see the
forests burn to the ground before a single tree was cut by commercia

We see wildfires because smaller fires are never left going long enough to burn
out the underbrush that feeds most of them. Logging often leaves so much junk
in the forest that wildfires are inevitable.

Name ONE!

The Sahara. The Gobi.

Go back under your bridge. I don't know whether your a troll or an ignoramus,
but you're a goofball either way.

You mean the plastic like wood? My hot tub side is made from that stuff.
Very impressive. I have also seen fences made from it. Good idea too since
you don't have to paint. Also rot and termites are of no concern. The minute
they start eating plastic we have a new way to recycle!

That's the answer. Cut down a 1000 year old redwood so some jackass can

have
a redwood deck. Sure trees grow back if they are replanted. The old ones
won't if jackasses keep cutting them down.

Personally I think all of the beer sucking, pot bellied human trash can
do
without a redwood deck.

John

Lots of folks are figuring out that synthetic decks look nice and don't
warp, discolor, or rot. We're going to put one in, and I can tell you I
won't miss treating it (don't have to), repairing it, and etc.

I don't know that I would describe it as "plastic," though we're probably
talking about similar stuff. It looks rather like some sort of compressed
material (though I don't think that really it either), but I couldn't tell
you what it is. You can sand it, cut it, and nail into it much like
ood. -Looks quite natural without close inspection... ...depending on what
type you buy.

Trex (tm) among others. It IS a plastic that is like wood, because it is wood
fibers (recycled) held together with a plastic resin. It's known as a composite
and there are a number of them out there. It is superb in some ways, not so
good in others--for example, it is rot free, and can be left without finish,
but it is not as strong (bending strength) as wood, so supports (joists) have
to be closer together--and cannot be made from the Trex or other composite.

At one time, Mount Lebanon was covered with a forest of Cedars, but
their exploitation began thousands of years ago. The Roman Emperor
Hadrian in the 2nd century, A.D. tried to protect the forest; however,
in the following centuries much of the forest was destroyed. The
immense and wondrous cedar forests of ancient times have disappeared.
Not much is left of the famous forests of biblical times,
