Default How to avoid July 9 'Internet Doomsday'

The lingering effects of an online advertising scam are affecting
hundreds of thousands of Internet users -- and the FBI’s final fix for
the problem may leave them without Internet access.

The problem began when international hackers ran an online advertising
scam to take control of infected computers around the world. The FBI
set up a safety net months ago using government computers, but that
system will shut down July 9. At that point, infected users won’t be
able to connect to the Internet.
