New Air Show Photo Restrictions

wrote: Cameras and camcorders (owners should not load film prior to entering the show area as they may be required to open all compartments at Security Checkpoints). just how much explosives do they think can fit inside a mirror box? While explosives would be a threat, a more serious one would be a biological weapon. And that could be fairly small- possibly the size of a medium telephoto lens. a lens isn't a compartment that someone would be required to open. only the mirror box is a concern. So because they don't have a mirror, rangefinder cameras can't be weaponized? very few people would bring a rangefinder camera to an airshow, but if you want to call it film chamber instead, go ahead. I didn't say the bio-weapon would be inside the lens; I said it could be the _size_ of a medium telephoto lens. But since you want to go that route... the issue is not to preload film because the camera might be opened to see what's inside, not what could exist externally. but now that you've publicized your plans, out of abundance of caution, all lenses will now require full disassembly at the checkpoints. think of the children. oh, and the pizza boxes. Or a security guard could just look through the lens, either on or off the camera. which won't catch what's packed into the barrel or mount plate. Actually, it's not _my_ plan; it came from a Tom Clancy "Jack Ryan" novel, where the bad guys used shaving cream dispensers to distribute their bio-weapon at several indoor public events. that won't affect preloading a film camera. But I do agree: children and pizza boxes need to be banned from public events. Perhaps the children could be put in the pizza boxes; it doesn't have to be a one-to-one correlation. missing the pizza box reference entirely. |
