Default [SI] Curves - comments from Stick

Stream-of-conciousness comments:

Road-trip: A study in light and dark as
well as curves, of the sundial. Nice. I
like the limited amount of crisp detail.

stick_1: One end of San Vicente, a church
in Avila, Spain. I chose this for the three
different sizes of curves and the colour
contrast with the sky.

stick_2: Firework night in England (we
try to remind the Government what a good
thing it would have been for Guy Fawkes
to have succeeded). I liked the colour
combination of these ones, and the gravity
curves combines nicely with the air-resistance
feathering.

Tim Conway: Wind-flattened crop. Nice idea
but too busy at the top of shot. Maybe
just crop to the lower half?

Auditorium roof: Striking. Nice curve and
the sky focusses the attention. Has a bit
much of the hdr look for my taste.

Bowser: Architectural curved building with
windows. A spiral on a cylinder, with extruded
windows. The cone at the top isn't helping -
there's not enough of it be be part of the
composition. This doesn't say much to me
as a whole, I'm afraid.

Bowser: The bridge. Has a fisheye and isn't
afraid to use it! Fully in keeping with
the mandate, and someone had to.

Eric Stevens: A lazy chair, a dipper for sake,
a big bronze art piece? I love the mottled
blue; it looks almost furry, and contrasts well
with the sharp granular ground. Maybe a bit
over-sharpened?

Eric Stevens: Under-bridge lighting. The curve
of the bank in the foreground shows well but further
back it gets too busy.

Eric Stevens: Rollers. Lighting makes this
difficult; the colours seem pushed too far for me.

Bob Coe: Auditorium (again). Plain shot; nice
basic curve. The orange fence (?) doesn't help.

Bob Coe: Kendall Square T. Not enough curve
here versus all the modern rectilinear building.
Get closer? Concentrate just on the decoration?
And why don't I remember this portal from twenty
year ago when I was there?

Bob Coe: Footpath. Doesn't jump at me. There's
more curve in the road bridges off to the left.

Martha Coe: Woodland shot. The path? A couple
of the sapling branches?

Martha Coe: Dried flora. The vase, I suppose, and
the almost circular leaves. Too dry for me.

Martha Coe: Bowl of fruits. Off-globes of the pears
and a avocado contrasts the regular circle of the
bowl and mount. The avocado skin isn't showing the
texture I'm sure it ought to have - is this a case
where it's fair to cheat and dust with chalk? Can
careful lighting bring it out?

Cooper: Dome, versus cylinder. I like the colours,
and that the internals of the dome are visible.

Cooper: Reflections, distorted, of windows. Excellent.

Cooper: Stained Glass. Looks too much like graphic art.

Cleary: Wave curl. Classic shape of the breaking wave
plus the blowing spray. Nice colours. Wish I could
take them like this.

Duck: Yellow car. Plain curves, perfect concours.

Duck: Bugatti. Two curves, ok, but not too interesting.
Car nuts only.

Duck: Red thing. Presumably another automotive item.
Polished, check. Curved, check. Abstract, yup.
Not enough context.

KPet Statue. Doesn't grab me.

KPet Tent? Building? Nice hyperbolic paraboloid;
an unusual but good-looking curve. The wrinkles help
to move the attention around.

KPet Merc. Three circles/ellipses, ho-hum.

Jim Blue: Big arcs. Nice, plain and basic. Contrast
in colours, again, seems to be what's working for me.

Rob: Euphonium? A bit busy, and not squarely on-mandate,
but a nice shot.

frankEss: Knobbly tree. Yes.

frankEss: Wispy clouds. No; too vaporous.

frankEss: Unidentified thing under tarp. With traffic cone.
I can't see anything here to comment on. It's dark, mainly.

Peter Newman: Roller-skating interrupted. High iso test shot?
Very tight crop? Where did all that noise come from?

Peter Newman: Car and boat (apparently). I don't see them.

Peter Newman: Modern doorway. Nice emphasis of the cylindrical
build, bright against the mono windows. Was it really like
that or did you desaturate?

You're right. I wish I would have done that. It would be a better photo.
Thanks for commenting.

All three. I rarely use noise reduction, but should start.

Peter Newman: Car and boat (apparently). I don't see them.

Camera rotation and color reversal help make objects difficult to
identify. A car and a boat were in the scene.

I slightly desaturated on the left side because I didn't like the yellow
reflections. Otherwise, that was pretty much the scene at 13th St &
Ninth Ave, in NYC.

Correction. I revisited the image. You are right, I desaturated the
entire background. More on the left than on the right.
