QuickTake 150 images - Converting on PC
I have 30 to 40 pict images that I took with a long-departed Apple
QuickTake 150. The images are now on my PC. I've let them sit there unreadable for years, but am now energized to try and get them in readable form again. Does anyone know of a method, including paying for a service, to get these converted to jpeg? I have a Mac available, but it only has OSX and I've read that the original QuickTake extension won't work under OSX. I've tried GraphicConverter and Irfanview with no luck. Thanks Jim Mitchell |

As far as I know, the only way to do this would be on an OS 8 or 9 Mac with the Quicktake software installed: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61047 Once that software is in place, you can work them with GraphicConverter - but not before. The photos are actually in the Apple-specific PICT format, with a variant of Quicktime compression. It's obscure enough i doubt anyone else has ever supported it. One crazy thing to look into: The Quicktake 100 series were based on a Kodak design - the DC40, I believe. It's at least possible the Windows software for the Kodak used the same format. |

An object in the PICT was a Quicktime component and a Quicktime icon bitmap. The Quicktime component was a wrapper for a JFIF. That was a neat hack but it was completely unmaintainable. Some utilities can strip the JFIF data out of any file by looking for well known markers. You can also do it manually. One crazy thing to look into: The Quicktake 100 series were based on a Kodak design - the DC40, I believe. It's at least possible the Windows software for the Kodak used the same format. |

Ah indeed! This sounds like progress.
Do you know which utilities? Mac or PC? Would GraphicConverter or its PC equivalent then be able to deal with it to covert to jpeg? Thanks |
