Default Zeiss Ikon back with passion

and there are no plans of fitting it with a digital back, so I wonder if
this is the right group... (Just being sarcastic about all the digital
talk that is happening here)

....no, they're back with a Cosina. Check the other thread on the same
subject.

Actually, check out the FAQ on the new site. They basically state "no
comment" about a future digital back. I would guess a future digital body
would be simpler, but without seeing the camera, it is tough to tell.

The camera body is one surprise, mostly because it does not say Contax on
it, nor is it made by Kyocera/Yashica. I think the lenses are the big
development, and finding a way to use them will be the draw into the
system. They seem to state they are aiming to undercut lens prices from
Leica.

Ciao!

This is very different from the Rollei 35RF, so why the sour note? The
top, rangefinder, and viewfinder do not match any Voigtländer
rangefinder, especially not the R3A. The shape is more like a Leica M7,
or maybe a Konica Hexar, than anything from Cosina. The rangefinder is
much longer base than any Leica.

Look, we all know Cosina makes some plastic crap, just like Sigma, but
handle one of their Voigtländer lines of lenses, or one of their newer
camera bodies, and these are much better build quality than a Canon
Rebel (digital or film), and more comparable to a Nikon FM3A.

Zeiss also state that the new lenses (except the 21 mm) will be built in
Oberkochen. Even if you dismiss the new camera body, can you also
dismiss the lenses?

Do you think this camera system will be better, or worse, than the
Contax G2? Why?

Ciao!

Two completely different leagues. Rollei would have been glad if their
own 35 mm cameras had ever come anywhere near the quality of any Cosina
body. But Zeiss-Ikon...? Dunno, really...

BTW, I'm probably the last one who still shoots about 2/3 of his yearly
300+ rolls of film with a genuine Zeiss-Ikon camera and real Oberkochen
lenses.

Zeiss also state that the new lenses (except the 21 mm) will be built in
Oberkochen.

If I can still trust my failing eyesight, their FAQ says: "2 types are
manufactured by Carl Zeiss in Oberkochen, 5 types are manufactured by
Cosina in Japan."

Ralf,

300+ rolls a year, wow I wasn't expecting this much. I wonder what other
members of this groups average over a year?

I am somewhere around 40~50 rolls a year.

Elie

ps. I did check your site, pretty nice.
