Default Upgrade from Nikon FM2 to FM3A?

I have a Nikon FM2 in pristine condition (bought new in 1996) and I would
like to upgrade towards the FM3A. Does this make sense?

I also have a Nikon F100 and the following lenses:
MF 50mm f/1.8
MF 24mm f/2.8
AF 35mm f/2
AF-S 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5 G
AF 80-200mm f/2.8 ED

By the way, I'm not a professional photographer.

Not much. Aperture priority is all you get, and your F100 already has that.

OTOH, if you really want AE, go for it... or get a nice minty FE2.

And TTL flash, which the FE2 also has, but without the flash compensation
button.

I think the FM2 uses LED in the light meter, and both the FE2 and the FM3a
use a needle. LEDs are great for low light situations, otherwise a
needle is more convenient. I don't understand why the F3 got the worst of
both worlds.

You also get TTL flash, with the FM3A, correct?

Correct.

Plus DX coding.

The TTL auto flash, which is basically identical to that of the 1980s
FE2, is alone more than enough reason to upgrade from the FM2.

Correct. He didn't specify having a flashgun, however- and if he needs TTL
flash he already has an F100.

I'd like to have a FM3 myself, but what would it offer you over the
FM2? Fast flash sync?

you are not a pro, you have one of the best 35mm film cameras a
pro could have and you are wondering if you should upgrade your
older manual focus camera to a newer manual focus camera?

Why not buy lens instead? UNlike going to FM3A that will actually
make your images better.

The SB-28 will work perfectly with the FM3A.
