Default Oldie - Canon T70

Hi,

Ran into an old Canon T70 for sale at an antique mall the other day.
Had a 50mm 1.4 lens. Price $80 U.S.

I didn't know if the 50mm lens would work with my Canon 350XT. Anybody
know if this was a good or bad deal?

Thanks,

Conrad

Hi Conrad,

I had a Canon T-70 for years. It is a fairly good camera. It uses the
Canon FD series lenses (the ones that go on the F-1, and the AE-1).
You should be able to pick these lenses up for a song and a dance now
for the most part, however some of these lenses might still set you
back a small fortune, as some were made by Zeis. You can sometimes
find good deals on some of the used lenses.

The largest problem I had with the camera, after years of fairly heavey
use - the flash braket started to come off, and the flash didn't want
to fire all the time. I had to sort of hold the flash on the camara to
make it fire.

If it is in good condition, and you want a manual focus camera with FD
mount lenses, I would say it would be a good camera to pick up for a
second camera. Just check it over, and run a 12 exposure roll of film
through it, check out the flash bracket, and the lens mount.

That lens won't fit on an EOS mount as on your 250XT. Further, although
you might be able to get an adapter for the mount, the lens will not
focus to infinity.

The FD lenses will not work on the EOS mounts. However, if you just
want a second camera that does film to take around... for $80... and if
it is in good condition. It would be okay.

However, you are looking at a different lens system. The old FD mount
lenses instead of the new EOS mount lenses. You can get adapters, that
cost you light and money.
