Actually as representations of gods and goddesses, they *were* created
to evoke emotions. Awe, fear, admiration... You can hardly say that
religious figures do not evoke emotions in the faithful.

One didn't go anywhere in ancient Greece by making a piece of art of
everyman, so Gods it was. Further, ancient Greek art was largely a movement
to evince and perpetuate ideal forms, and proportions, and it was quite
regimented. It was what we would call craftsmanship today. (Rather how I
feel about the F64 school.)

Precisely. For them. 'art' was quotidian, but it was still 'art'.
