Default Canon's enviro-policy "lens unfriendly."

They are using a pressing technique to make some lenses in order to
reduce the amount of material removed during grinding. While this is
nice sounding from an environmental perspective, it is not good for
precision lenses. Finely annealed high quality optical glass is hugely
compromised by slumping, or molding, or pressing. Lets hope they
confine it to cheap digicams and not let it come near high-end
telephotos or zooms. They are also producing the 1D MII boards without
lead solder to conform to Euro-enviroKOOK legislation against "toxic"
metals like lead,
cadmium, etc. New 1Ds owners should be on the lookout for electrical
faults for the first year
of camera production using new solders.
