They could however offer an adapter so that a larger mounted
lens worked back to the F Mount. In article , Alan Browne wrote: Dallas wrote: Don't worry ... this has been Nikon's one point of long standing honor (with its many exceptions...). If they changed mounts now they would have a stampede heading for Canon and they know it. What if Nikon kept the F mount but introduced a new, totally different but concurrently manufactured mount for professional use only? Bad strategy unless you really go on an end run like Olympus and the 4/3" sensor and the (filmless) E-1 line. If Nikon introduced a 100% F-incompatible, pro-destined line, it would have a limited market. Pros would need new bodies and lenses. At that point the pros would sit back and say, 'well, while I'm changing, what else is there ...' That stampeding noise would be them running to Canon. Most certainly since, according to a few pj's I've talked to around here, Canon treat them well, offer to sell them eqt. at a discount (whether for pro or personal need) ... whereas Nikon really don't give a **** about the pj's ... they appear to take for granted that they have the market in hand ... the sidelines at many sporting events seem to indicate that Nikon have lost it with the pro sports pj's. Nikon have frittered away their strong position by resting on their laurels, that's all their is to it. What if Nikon kept the F mount but introduced a new, totally different but concurrently manufactured mount for professional use only? I would still be unhappy about that, because it would mean that all the lenses they designed from that point on, would only fit their new mount, and therefore be unavailable to me. This is already partially the case with some of the new lenses they make for digital use only....They will/might vignette when used with the 35 mm format cameras. As a matter of fact, if I didn't have my F5, but only had an older body, I would be ****ed at them for building the "G" type lenses, that won't work with the older bodies, (and with some newer bodies, like the FM3a) If their new F6 doesn't work with the old glass, then I won't even consider buying one. (for example) One of the great pleasures I get from photography is finding old Nikkors at second hand stores, flea markets, and garage sales. When I do find one of these, the one thing I know about it is that it will fit on my camera, and I will be able to take pictures with it....... |

"Gregory Blank" wrote in message ... As I stated they could make an adapter for the new lenses back to the F mount. Yes.....They might be able to do that with the "G: type lenses, too.....An adapter that enabled one to twist a ring that adjusted the aperture on the lens by the same mechanism that the new camera bodies use....But, unfortunately, it would have to contain corrective glass to extend the lens-to-film plane distance also...... |
