If I recall, that black nubbly stuff covering most of the camera body
was Tolex: a (wait for it) plastic-impregnated cloth that in later
incarnations was used for covering guitar amps, Etc.

I suspect that that black ring securing the lens is also some kind of
synthetic--it has remained reliably black on mine, which hit several
beaches in the Pacific during WWII.
