Default Decrease depth of field with telephoto attachment?

I have a Canon G5 and I am in general quite happy with it. However, one effect
that I have not been able to achieve is a very shallow depth of field for
portraits. Even with the lens at full zoom and maximum aperture, the depth of
field is much greater than I could obtain with my 35mm camera and a telephoto
lens (say 150mm). I'm wondering if the telephoto lens attachment for the G5
would create a shallower depth of field? Or would it be just like using digital
zoom where the image is enlarged, but the depth of field remains the same?

If you are actually increasing the focal length of the lens you will
decrease the DOF. Assuming the telephoto attachment is one of those screw on
adaptors then the lens is actually converted to a longer focal length.
