Default Canon "known issue" with DOF ?

Hi everyone,

I just got off the phone with Canon NJ factory, inquiring about my lens I
sent in with a DOF prob. I was told that this is a 'known issue' and that
sometimes just the lens is at fault and sometimes it is the camera
interfacing with the lens. As they are holding the lens for ten days for
repair, one can assume the problem has been found in the lens itself.

What I would like to know is has anyone heard of this DOF/interface issue?
I remember the battery compartments of the Elan II/E and the knob problems
of certain Canons, but I've heard nothing about this.

Comments? I was about to expand my system quite a bit and am now
rethinking.

Thanks,
Scott

Someone is blowing smoke up your backside.
-And they are not going to work on your lens for 10 days.

Canon makes a world class lens system, and any peculiarities are flukes.

Either that, or "Scott" is our favorite son setting this up so he
(under another name, of course) can come to the rescue and tell us how
much better some other system is.

I think you may be right. Something just does not ring true about the
story.

Default Canon "known issue" with DOF ?

Hi again,

No, I am not that ignorant piece of turd that sets things up so he can
say Sigma rules when we all know it sucks the big one.

I sent in my 85 lens for repair and inquired if anyone else had a dof
issue about two weeks ago, check the threads. I sent my lens into Canon,
where they promptly lost the specific info, like my name and the problem.
Finally got everything received after the 4th of July weekend. Asked for an
update; finally called, which is when I spoke to the rep, Diane. She is the
one mentioning this 'known issue'.

The reason why I asked this group for assistance is that, like I said, I
have heard about the battery compartment issue of the Elan II and the
command dial breakage of certain models, A2E and above I believe, I had
heard NOTHING about this and wanted to know if anyone else had.

Sorry if this doesn't ring true for you guys; I happen to be the one all
those 'one in a million' bad luck things seem to happen to. I have heard
Canon service is exemplary and could not believe such an issue could be true
given the overwhelming use of Canon products (L lens comes to mind) in the
global market. So I asked the gurus out there for their viewpoint.

I do hope this puts the matter of my identity to rest. I am a photo
enthusiast cursed with bad luck, not a troll. Learn to see the difference.
Any other questions?

Here's the thing, DOF is controlled by two things, and two things only:
Aperture and Focal Length. The only way the interface could affect DOF
is if the lens is not being set to the proper aperture, which of course
would have an obvious effect on exposure.

Or is this an issue with a "auto DOF" mode? Does the camera not
correctly read the focal length of the lens?

I actually thought of that too...
Could be Georgie.
