This NG falling asleep?

And have you noted how different USENET is from what it was over a dozen years ago? The assertion was that USENET is dying, not that it's already dead. It's obvious that we're witnissing the process of fewer and fewer people communicating using USENET and it's a monotonic sequence, a trend in the direction of extinction. At some point there will be so few people on it that no one will host USENET feeds, and that will cut down on the numbers critically, and when thee's no profit to be made from USENET hosting you'll have a situation where it is just about extinct, with a small number of people able to access what's left of it in some non-commercial way, and with probably no archives at all by that time. Unless something happens to reverse the trend, USENET will be only a memory at some point in the not all that distant future. It's kind of the social media equivalent of climate change. Speaking of a well documented trend. |

I wonder if I'll be there to close its doors and put out the lights or if it will be there to put out my lights. Hard to tell. Hopefully not until after I am dead. :P -- Quote of the Week: "While an ant was wandering under the shade of the tree of Phæton, a drop of amber enveloped the tiny insect; thus she, who in life was disregarded, became precious by death." --Martial, Epigrams (c. 80-104 AD), Book VI, Epistle 15.
