Don't think so but if you bend any phone and put it in your pocket
that isn't the standard way of storing yorr phone.

That could have also happend if he shorted out the connector, or put the phone in water. A few in London have had exploding phones while left on charge but they were using cheap imported chargers that were dangerous a couple of which exploded.
