Big heavy with a good smooth pan head. Yea, that also means expensive.

From there down you trade off weight, and cost against stability, which
is what you buy the tripod for. When you get too light and or two cheap,
you end up with something that is worthless. Likely you will want something
in-between the best and the cheapest. Most people buy tripods that are too
cheap to really help.
