I took the plunge. It worked, but the functions were not permanently
added into the Canon firmware. Less than satisfactory....


Considering what CHDK allows you to do, the simple act of loading the
CHDK onto the memory card(s) so it will run seems a bounty, not a curse.
Further, it's less prone to unintended consequences. If you ever load
a buggy CHDK simply removing the card and re-starting restores the camera.

Stop bitching over the good work others have done and for which you get
the benefit without an iota of effort or a dime of cost.

Documentation for using CHDK in SX30 needs some more work.


So work on it.
