There are other examples such as T-bird not allowing deletes of posts
anymore (by the sender). At least on the Mac version.

For that matter even setting up a new news server account on T-bird has
become somewhat obfuscated - it facilitates e-mail (POP|IMAP) but hides
the ability to do usenet. (It used to have radio buttons to choose -
those are gone).
