supposed to be secret, its doubtful all the VARS/retailers would have
been given the scoop so far in advance....its a good way to leak a

Not so. It is normal to release the information to magazine
publishers about three to four weeks early so that the magazine issue
which is published on or immediately after the day of the announcement
can include details of the product.

I was aware of the existence of the Canon .pdf document a whole week
before I announced the Canon 5D on this newsgroup, and I understand
that publishers had actually received it several days prior to that.
