the gps in phones is normally off, but either way, not all cameras with
gps 'eat batteries'.


As I mentioned up-thread, my Panasonic did until a firmware fix came
out. IIRC, that reduced the behaviour of satellite polling, and it
became quite usable, not affecting battery life too much at all.

in other words, they fixed a bug and now it works properly.
