hello,

am looking at various large format cameras. I used a toyo c when I went
to university and it seemed to fit the bill (but so will others). I
would like to know which film holders and lens boards are
interchangeable with which cameras? Is there a faq or site with such
info? A book???? thanks in advance

4x5 film holders will work on any 4x5 camera. The design hasn't changed
much in 60 years. Once, I refurbished an old 5x7 wooden bed type camera
with a 4x5 reducing back from the 1940s. Modern holders worked just fine
in it. Lensboards, on the other hand, are usually unique for each camera
manufacturer, and will not work on another manufacturer's camera. There
are exceptions, but it is extremely rare. (I used Horseman boards on the
original Sinar f. No problem.) Although, certain lightweight field
cameras may take another manufacturer's lensboard as its standard one,
but that will be noted in the specs.

There used to be a extensive web site on large format cameras, both
modern and vintage, that was very comprehensive, but I no longer have the
URL. Just do a little Google-ing. If it's still up, you'll find it.
