Canon announces their new products a month, or two at the most, before

they
appear in the market. Nikon's doing the FUD more than half a year away,

like
the D70 and now the D2X.

Let's face it...
Nikon is clearly behind the curve when it comes to keeping pace wth Canon's
productivity in new technology.

Nikon is announcing early specifically to try and keep Nikon users from
jumping ship.
They are losing more and more photogs to Canon--in part because Canon keeps
coming up with the good in a timely manner.

Their 12MP competition to Canon's 1Ds is already behind BEFORE it's
released!
So...in a desparate attempt to not lose folks, they have to show what's
coming well in advance. Meanwhile, Canon 1Ds Mark IIs will be IN THE FIELD,
at 16.7MP.

Nikon had better do something OTHER than what they've done the last two
years or they will descend into real competetive trouble as they lose more
and more of their heart and soul users.

Canon is treading into medium format territory now, with this latest 16.7MP
monster. They intend to go after calendar folks, fashion, and full-page
magazine shooters.
Meanwhile, Nikon's only high res DSLR is limited to less than 8MP, and even
their future release is behind.

Come on Nikon! I'm pulling for ya!
