Default Question re SLR's and video recording...

Nope, not a dumb question.

When shooting video with a mirror based SLR, how does one
view the subject?

Through the viewfinder?

Wouldn't the mirror have to be raised continuously for
recording video?

The digital cameras I've owned (to this point) haven't been
SLR's.

Yes, the mirror is up. And the rear display reflects what is being
recorded. Which is OK except in bright lighting when that display is
difficult to see. I tend to make the kind of videos linked below, so I
don't need to watch the display. I watch the subject and when it is no
longer doing what I want it to do, or I've just had enough, I stop
recording.
