So, for under 1000C$ I can get going with the K10D, but will using it
with the older autofocus lenses from my film camera's be satisfactory
or should I spring for one of the lenses made specifically for the
digital?
By all accounts, you don't need digital-specific lenses to get good
results. Some folks have reported being disappointed with the metering
on older lenses - specifically, I believe, those with no "A" position.
The claim is that the metering works well when relatively wide open, but
gets a bit off as you stop down (it decreases the shutter speed, of
cours,e but not necessarily by wquite the right amount). Some claim
further that this is related to the focusing screen - putting in a
different one seems to solve the problem. I guess the idea is that the
meter is being confused by the amount of light coming in from the
viewfinder or perhaps being reflected off it. Anyhow, others claim
there is no problem at all, and in any cases, sheesh, this is digital:
take a test shot, check the histogram, and set your own exposure!
