I used the word 'honor' because it is a strategy that Nikon
adopted back in the 70's (80's?) to maintain a lens mount back to
1959. They maintained that strategy through the present which is
one of the strong pillars of their success and user loyalty.
If Nikon make a new F-mount film camera in 2009, it will work
with lenses built in 1959 (with some *wee* compromises to be
sure). 50 years of consistency can't be sneezed at.
If Nikon do do a new mount, the benefits of it will have to be
astounding to retain their customer base.
