D200, Day One

Apart from being able to couple older lenses to the D200, which can be
important to some users, I am curious why you like it better than the D80 as
they are otherwise functionally the same. I am...

D80 or S5?

As an all round camera for an advanced amateur there is no doubt that the
D80 and D200 will be better choices than the Fuji..
Pick the Fuji up with a lens attached and see if you want to walk around...

Nulooq or tablet?

Wacom Tablets are the only ones to consider but there is a learning curve.
Most likely you are trying to do some form of compositing. You will learn

Problem w/ 50mm 1.8 lens (Nikon AF)

If you bought on Ebay you may be out of luck and have to learn to live with
exposure compensation.
Most real stores have time-limited policies on returns.

The D3 Loves Big Glass

Apart from professional uses I fail to understand why anyone in their right
mind would lug a camera the size of a D3, or its Canon SUV sized
equivalents, for what end up essentially as amateur...

used digital slr bodies

Even in old school terms that is some old gear. I have a closet full of now
aging high quality film gear that I do not use and can not part with.
You do not need a "full frame" sensor like the...

Small Light Camera that shoots RAW

If you like Panasonics check out the FZ series. In raw at ISO 100 image
quality is actually pretty good for printing up to 8.5x11. If you only view
your images on a computer monitor then sensor...

ISO 400 to 800 Ideal

A larger sensor means a larger camera and a larger lens.
The EVF makes sense as an alternative to a dSLR if the form factor remains significantly smaller.
Noise in the current generation of EVFs is...

Backfocus

Autofocus maximizes contrast so it really has nothing to do with the
mechanics of the lens.
If the lens will not focus manually and hold focus then something could be
wrong with the optical or...

Panasonic DMZ-FZ8 versus comparable dSLR

I have an FZ18.
It is a good value for what it is, particularly the effective 500mm focal
length at the long end of the zoom.
However even in raw at ISO 100 image quality, compared to a dSLR, is...

New Nikon Lenses:

VR on a 16-85mm lens with 5.6 at the long end.
What is this world coming to?
You are going to need anabolic steroids just to be able to carry a dSLR lens
and camera around . . .

P&S shooters: This is your CUE to do the RIGHT thing

I am sitting here staring at my Nikon D80 with Nikon 18-200VR lens attached.

Canon vs. Canon

These lenses are designed with different primary usages in mind.
If you know what you will be using the lens for then your decision should be
clear.

Nikon 18-200mm VR lens query

I have the Nikon 18-200VR.
It is a very heavy lens that is optically no better than the Sigma 18-200
non stabilized. I had both these lenses for awhile, I got the Nikon because
I needed the VR, and...

500 mm lens

For only once in a while, personal use:
Better to get glass for a Nikon dSLR or a Panasonic FZ18?
Let the cameraholic flame wars begin--a reasonable opinion or two might
actually surface.
