Can I use an old fashion flash unit with a digital camera?

There are a couple of issues here...

1. If the flash is an older unit, the voltage on its terminals might
damage the camera.

2. The digital camera may have a "red eye" feature. This can trip...

Read about the issue of "circle of confusion." If you are holding, say
an 8x10 at normal viewing distance, what is the smallest thing you eye
can resolve -- about a pencil point -- 0.1mm, perhaps....

Does about 90% of photoshop and EASY learning curve. I use it in a
digital photography course that I teach. Cheap is good. Free...

Maybe OT, Tripod Maintenance Question

First project is to get the old congealed grease out. Take things
apart, and clean with mineral spirits or something like WD40. Then re-
lube LIGHTLY (just wipe down) with something like Hoppe's gun...

Good backup camera?

Just went down this road of a "pocket" camera -- HP M525 does the
trick. Backup to my Olympus C-5000. 6 Mpix, 2x AA batteries, and next
purchase is the cradle/charger/recharge battery set. SD memory...

Excellent! It is MUCH to easy to get bogged down in technology, and
forget what photography is all about. I have found that a SMALL camera
is more likely to be taken along, instead of some big one....

at home), any of the "point and shoot" cameras will do the...
