X-T2 Capturing Gannets
 

I thought I would try to get things back to photography. These were shot with
an X-T2 + XF 50-140mm f/2.8 (+2X teleconvertor, not my favorite accessory,
but it seems to have worked.)

Excellent! I'd love to try an X-T2 but can't justify it for the amount
of photography that I do. I manage with an X-E1 and the humble XC
50-230, but you do have to pre-focus. So OK for shots of show-jumping,
birds on perches or at feeders.

tracking. If you can find one of those used, or perhaps even a clearance
X-E2S, they would do a better job for those subjects than your X-E1, and they
are available at very good prices.

You would gain a much improved AF.

which was released with improvements to AF which the X-T2 only gained via a
firmware update not available for the X-E2/E2(S). The X-E3 would also give

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm certainly sold on the Fuji system, but
to be honest I can't justify upgrading at the moment. It's different for
(say) a professional sports photographer whose living depends on
capturing the moment.

I don't claim any special merit in the following image, but I was
pleased with the number of reasonable pictures that I got on this day,
with manual focus of course! Hand-held. X-E1 with the 50-230 fully extended.

None the less, it is worth thinking about, I am sure that you would be able
to find a new clearance X-E2S, or a used X-E2/E2S at very affordable prices,
even at UK levels. ;-)

Good cameras are not only the exclusive playthings of the pros, us old farts
need toys as well. Think about treating yourself.

I just sold my pontoon boat, and now I am eyeing a new lens, perhaps that
50-140mm f/2.8, or perhaps something else...

I don't claim any special merit in the following image, but I was
pleased with the number of reasonable pictures that I got on this day,
with manual focus of course! Hand-held. X-E1 with the 50-230 fully extended.

Thanks. Maybe not so obvious from the photo, but this is "tent pegging"
where the rider attempts to pick up wooden pegs hammered into in the
ground using the tip of the lance. So there is a good fixed point to
focus on before the riders make the attempt. And since you are trying to
catch the most dramatic moment there is little to be gained from auto focus.
