Has anybody here tried this model out yet, most reviews seem okay but
I was wondering about the length of use one gets out of the 4 bateries
it requires as well as any other concerns one should be concerned
about

I would say that most people (who are 'in the know') will use rechargable
Nimh cells in a camera like that which uses AA cells. Use of regular
alkalines will run your battery bill up quite a bit (though the later model
Canons that use AA cells do pretty good with alkalines, but Nimh are still a
recommendation).

My A70 would net me about 200+ pics on a set of good alkalines, whereas if I
used Nimh cells, it would be anywhere between 300 and 400 pics, depending on
the mah rating of the cells (I got 300 on 1300 mah and 400 on 2000 mah).

Having said that, it really depends on how you're going to use the camera
too. If you take just a few shots once in a while (like for example a couple
of pics a day over a month long period), the alkalines will serve you
better, as the rechargables self-discharge quite a bit more.

Bottom line is that if you use the camera a lot, Nimh rechargables are
better. If you use the camera more infrequently, the alkalines will not
self-discharge nearly as much.

Just ordered mine. I have an A40, get over 350 shots on very good but low
rated (mah that is) Quest in vacation period. Get almost 200 over a 22 week
period. The A95 manual claims even more. Will depend how much you use the
lcd screen but number of shots will not be a problem. Real problem is
choosing between A95 or 1s Is!! Carry a spare set. Walmart sell a fast
charger with 4 batteries ac power and auto cord for $17,

I Didn't see your original post, so I'll have to reply to the
reply... :)

Battery life is extremly good, as far as I'm concerned. I'm
using 2200mAh NiMHs in mine, and they will easily last long
enough to fill a 512MB memory card - about 200 shots, most with
flash, and LCD always on. In fact, it probably does closer to
300+ shots, but I don't really count, I just know I get more
than a card. That's with lots of reviewing on the LCD as well-
The wife will often take pics of the kids during the day, and
I'll have a look on the screen in the evening.

I rekon that figure is going up as well - I think I'm getting
better life now that the NiMHs have been cycled a few times.
(which was expected - it's normal behavior for rechargables.)

The one complaint I have, is that I've NEVER seen the low
battery indicator come up. The reviews I read said that it
didn't give much warning that batteries were dying, only a few
shots. I get NO warning. LCD goes off, camera goes dead, lens
still extended. I turn the LCD around, put the camera in
playback mode, and turn it on - that's enough to get the lens to
retract again. It's not really a big deal since I got a second
set of batteries to carry with me anyway.

As far as other concerns, I've also seen comments about the A95
giving 'soft' pictures. I'm no pro photographer, so I don't
really notice it - I think the shots look great. I always run a
couple of Unsharp Masks over the ones I print using GIMP - I
read somewhere that anyone doing digital prints should be doing
this anyway, no matter what the camera...shrug I Do it, and
results are good. That's all I know :)

The've all been reduced in size for web viewing and cropped, but
that's about all. If you want to see fullsize, uncropped

drained out" or the "battery real low" or such a message before the
lcd goes bust. also i get to see the battery low indicator when it was
low on the extreme left corener of the lcd .
