Americans love Portugal ! (Sony A350 pics)

I came to know an American couple from a Sony forum who came to Portugal for
a holiday.
The last two days I gave them a more or less guided tour of my area. We had
a great time together and had some excellent dinners.
They now are moving along the coast up north to Porto and later they'll come
back and go see the Algarve.

One week to see all of Portugal is not enough!

This is a small part of where I took them:

Click to see the large one, hover to see the EXIF.
As you can see, the in body stabilizer works great, specially together with
the tilt screen when you hold it in front of your stomach...

Never been to Portugal but my mum liked Portugal better than Spain.

that's a lens issue

and a common one

Zeiss ZA Planar T* 85mm f/1.4 (1,200 euros)
http://www.photozone.de/Reviews/Sony...ests/47-sony-a
lpha-aps-c/374-zeiss_za_85_14
"there're virtually no significant distortions to worry about (0.2%). "

"The Zeiss ZA 85mm f/1.4 produced superb resolution figures in the MTF lab.
At f/1.4 the quality is already exceptionally high"
tho
"Bokeh CAs", are very pronounced at large aperture settings but that's a
fate the Zeiss shares with fellow lenses such as the Canon EF 85mm f/1.2 USM
L and Nikkor AF 85mm f/1.4D. "

Zeiss ZA Sonnar T* 135mm f/1.8 (1,300 euros)
http://www.photozone.de/Reviews/47-s...eiss_za_135_18
"if you want the very best this is the one. Highly recommended!" "no
significant distortions to worry about (~0.15%). " "produced outstanding
resolution figures in the MTF lab. The quality is already exceptionally high
... This is about as good as it gets. "

Yes, next on my list is a new lens.
The purple is standard on both the 18-70 and my 75-300 Sony.
I'm not sure which is better:
Sigma 17-70 or Tamron 17-50 2.8
I saw the Sigma, maybe not a real macro, but can shoot very close and is
suppose to be very sharp.
Tamron is more light strong(?), but leaves a little tele to be desired,
don't know about the close-up-macro and issues of either.

hmmm, not in my lenses, that's for sure!
but then again, most of the time I don't
use an electronic sensor...

err.... bokeh CAs have nothing
to do with purple fringing as
seen in those photos...

This:
http://www.photozone.de/Reviews/47-s...w--test-report
would have to be the creme-de-la-creme to avoid most
optical problems. Yeah, it's expensive. But as we
usually say in the woodworking trade: "buy the best
tool and only cry once"?
Still if I had to choose, I'd probably go for the
Sigma: it's been a looooong time since I last saw
anything truly good out of Tamron...

I wouldn't be so sure. SLRgear is unimpressed:
http://www.slrgear.com/reviews/showp...uct/973/cat/83

Compare the pictures with the 18-70 kitlens, specially at 35mm wide open and
at f8 and you'll be wondering why you bought it in the first place! It's
much worse at certain parts and that for so much money is inexcusable.

BTW: what purple fringing do you mean? (LOL, I updated the pictures, have a
look)

Of course there is purple ... the guy said it was a Sony.
Pay attention.

BTW, does Nikon still get their sensors from Sony?

Where's the purple?

Some, such as the highly regarded sensor in the D300. The D3's
even better sensor didn't come from Sony though, which is no doubt
what you were hinting at. Maybe I'll get a D300, just to have a
camera that automatically reduces most of the purple and other types
of LCA that Canon bodies accept. :)

I'm not sure that's a PF problem.

Focus: can you send me the raw for the first image?

Send it via yousendit.com to my e-meil (remove 'freelunch').

Cheers,
Alan
