Why is it in the png 'format' ?

BC It's lean, mean lossless one...

What's wrong with a lossless compressed format?

Emphasizing the most horrific aspect of mirror-lenses. I've taken
shots that show no donuts because there were no specular highlights.
That is the mirror lens's best destiny.

The form of the bokeh reflects the the shape of the aperture. The
quality the pleasantness of the rolloff. I got this lense because I
wanted to explore the doughnut bokeh and am pleased so far, taking a
few shoots through the window...

It's lossless, much leaner than tiff and ready to go from most bitmap
raster editors save dropdown. Preview I this case. YMMV since all apps
don't handle EXIF with it well and you can't save layers, IIRC...

but not standard in photography like jpeg or tiff.
It doesn't include exif data which can be very useful in fault finding
or finding fault.

The file above contains both IPTC and Exif. As I wrote in another post
that you was to dense to read: It depends on the bitmap raster editor
used! Just download and check. Downloading is oki, uploading not soo....

When I see a png it's usually a PC file or a screenshot from a mac
rather than an image from a digital camera.

Does anyone here use png (SOOC) from their camera ?

BC It's lean, mean lossless one...

but not great with colour space and not used in colour printing well
pros wouldn't, but you can have a transparent layer which might be
useful over a JPEG

PNG is great for web usage.
