Canon (especially) and Nikon are a bit boring these days

We are all getting fed up with relics of the film era, the mirror that
noisily clunks up and down when taking a picture and the abomination

the focussing screen.

Not to worry. The Panasonic G1 was the first shot across the bow. I
think, at some point, you'll see the mirror boxes either disapper or be
replaced, in the interim, but a pellicle mirror, as in the new Sony
small SLRs. Right now most of the SLRs are still mirror boxes, and while
I hate it too, they're still the best choice in most situations. When I
see a camera on the sidelines of a pro football game without a mirror
I'll know we've made progress.

Then again, maybe if you don't need speed you can try a NEX.

18 months ago I bought a Panasonic Lumix G10 with 14042 & 45-200 lenses.
A great little camera. Not a mirror or pentaprism in sight! It does have
an electronic viewfinder (essential).
