Hasselblad 503 Cxi questions

Hi ,

I am going to start assembling a kit form of the 503 Cxi , bit by bit . What
do I need before I actually find the parts ( Books , CD/DVD's other
prerequisites ?)?
Is the film still being manufactured ? I gave up on medium-format in the
late 1990's after using a Chinese camera . Where do I get the Cxi manual (
original ) -- was it in color ?

Thanks ..

But i hope you're not seriously considering paying ridiculous sums for what
you can have for free?
Tonicity has downloaded these manuals from the Hasselblad site. Just like
anyone could.

They are not on the newly redisgned Hasselblad site anymore, but go he
http://www.hasselbladhistorical.eu/HW/HWVSys.aspx
and you'll find a 503CX manual for nothing at all.

The difference beteen CX and CXi is in the Winder. Anything concerning that
can be found in the (also free) 503 CW manual.

Thank you Q.G. this is an even better site .
If the difference is the motor drive , I am now thinking that it may be a
better I idea
to start with the 503 CW body and accessories. Since the system is modular I
may then
adapt the 503 CW to become a 503 CWD if I want to in the future -- if I can
afford it .

But I was wondering if there are any books I could read to prepare me before
I buy the body ? Maybe a DVD I can watch ?

Indeed.
The difference between CXi and CW is the CW's larger, non-vignetting mirror.
If you can live with the shorter mirror, a CXi (or any other model) turns
into a CXiD as easily as an CW into a CWD: they are all (500 C and upwards)
the same in this respect, all take the same digital backs, work the same
with digital backs.

Ernst Wildi's "Hasselblad Manual" is a very good starter.
It comes in many editions, each containing a bit more info abourt newer
stuff.
You may be able to find one (or more) in your local library.
