I wonder if they have a category for worst underwater video.....I could win
this.

You want US to pay you? That's not how contests work sir, it's the other
way around.

And by the way, we know that those "Prizes" your offering are actually going
to cost us money. Even if they really are totally free (which they don't
say they are) we have to travel all the way across the world (very expensive
and dangerous) and pay for food, drinks, tips, etc.

Try giving away cash and/or photo equipment only next time.

Go away spammer! No one here is stupid enough to let you screw them out of
their money!

In regard to your comment "You want US to pay you? That's not how
contests work sir, it's the other way around." ...I suppose your state
gives away free lottery tickets? Florida fishing or lobster tournaments
have no entry fees? Golf tournaments have no entry fee? Of course they
do.

Most major legitimate competitions have an entry fee. Prizes are
donated, but promotion, website, printing, shipping, mailing, etc all
have costs. Proceeds left over after costs are donated to worth causes
such as a marine science scholarship and marine conservation causes.
Entry fees also limit people from sending every photo they've ever
taken to flood the competition, so they only send their best. Please
read the website for where the money goes before making negative
comments. No one takes any income from this competition. All workers
are volunteers.

Yes, some prizes may cost you airfare to get there or other typical out
of pocket travel costs. However, most divers will be going on trips
anyway. Is it better to get most for free, or none for free? Prizes
donated are given out as donated. Equipment is shipped to winners at no
charge out of entry fees. Many prizes ARE photo and dive equipment. see
the website at www.uwimages.org for a list.

This is a legitimate photo/video competition for a good cause. Judges
for 2005 haven't been announced yet, but past judges have included Stan
Waterman, Stephen Frink, Wayne Hasson, Jay Ireland, and Dee Scarr.
Hopefully this will distinguish this competition between those that may
be less than worthy. This should give you some idea that these industry
professionals would not be associated if it were not legitimate.

Thanks!

In your OP your handle was "Mark" now you change it to "
and later to "uwphotographer". You can't hide like that. You also munged the
photography NG's names so your replies won't appear where photographers who
are knowledgeable about such contests can question you. I've fixed that for
you.

Most major legitimate competitions have an entry fee.

Many photography contests do not.

Entry fees also limit people from sending every photo they've ever
taken to flood the competition, so they only send their best.

That's silly and you assume we are too stupid to know any better. A limit of
one photo per person covers that problem.

Please
read the website for where the money goes before making negative
comments.

Please get your scam together before you post to NG's.

Yes, some prizes may cost you airfare to get there or other typical out
of pocket travel costs. However, most divers will be going on trips
anyway.

And if they aren't do they still get the prize?

Is it better to get most for free, or none for free?

DUH!

Prizes
donated are given out as donated.

Don't they have to be won first?

Equipment is shipped to winners at no
charge out of entry fees.

DUH! I guess so. They've already paid their entry fee!

This is a legitimate photo/video competition for a good cause. Judges
for 2005 haven't been announced yet, but past judges have included Stan

Legitimacy is proven by the rules/conditions of the contest, not who the
judges are.
In legitimate contests the entrants retain copyright ownership. Do they
retain their copyrights for the materials they submit to your contest? This
is a very important point and for photographers and it is the best indicator
of whether or not a contest is legitimate. Knowledgeable photographers never
give away copyrights that could be worth thousands in exchange for gifts.

Another scam busted!
